Why I Like to Read Contest

25 January 2012 | Published in: Garrettford Elementary Recent News

Dear Parents, Teachers, Administrators, and Librarians:

WHYY Educational Programs and Services and Verizon are pleased to announce WHYY I LIKE THIS BOOK. This exciting initiative is an excellent way to encourage students in the WHYY viewing area to share their opinions about a favorite book by answering the question WHYY I LIKE THIS BOOK? If selected, your child or a child in your classroom/community could star in a 60 second spot on WHYY explaining WHYY I LIKE THIS BOOK.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Go online to www.whyy.org/bookentry between February 1st and May 1st, 2012.
  2. Each child should choose the application for their grade grouping (K-2, 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12)
  3. Each child should submit an online application
  4. If a child is selected, they will be contacted in late Spring 2012.

Administrators and teachers can use WHYY I LIKE THIS BOOK as a school wide or district wide literacy initiative or a creative writing project for the classroom. Parents, librarians, and after school programs can challenge and engage children about their favorite book as a special assignment. The best part is, a child you know could star in their own WHYY I LIKE THIS BOOK piece on WHYY TV and whyy.org.

WHYY hopes you are just as excited about WHYY I LIKE THIS BOOK as we are. We are certain that this will be a fun project in or out of the classroom. Most importantly, we hope WHYY I LIKE THIS BOOK will foster a lifelong love of reading for many in the region.

Sincerely,

Susan M. Poglinco, Ph.D.
